Automotive Engineers Innovate Safe Technology

Recent innovations in automotive engineering have produced active safety systems ranging from side alert, often called blind spot warning, to adaptive cruise control, to collision detection and warning. What this means to the average consumer will change over time as these products become increasingly available. What this means to the automotive engineer is increased attention to safe technology.

Many impressive innovations beyond the now customary car navigation system have existed - and even been on the market - for years now. Adaptive cruise control has been available since the early 19990s. Electronic stability control has been an option for many vehicles since 1995. Scanning radars, crash sensors, pre-crash mitigation and vehicle and occupant safety systems are also emerging. Such systems offer insights into how roads can be made safer in generations to come and where automotive technology is heading. In other words, as cars become “carputers,” automotive engineers are driving shifting technologies.

The myriad of promising innovations includes vehicle occupant safety systems. For example, a crash sensor generates a signal based upon a potential crash or one already transpired via a continuously variable severity output signal. If an accident has occurred, sensors signal certain actions like deployment of airbags. If an accident is likely to occur, sensors can alert the driver in various ways so that she or he can try to take necessary actions to avoid an accident and/or the sensors can take action themselves by pretensioning seatbelts or initiating automatic braking. In many ways, this process is not dissimilar to the functioning of the human brain: The brain sends a signal to the body to complete an action, often in response to stimuli received from the outside world. Who knew humanity would serve as its own model for creating devices designed for our safety?

Often, though, such examples of automotive technology are integrated into high-end, expensive cars first, due to high pricing. As the benefits of these products become more widely known and their popularity expands, costs decrease due to economies of scale and advancing technology. As research and development pay off, these advanced products become more widely distributed.

The advantages of automotive system and component integration expertise will continue to increase over time. Such knowledge may be paramount to an industry focused on better fuel economy, safety advancements and financially feasible products. Engineers versed in not only the basics of these systems but also in how to integrate them is only the beginning. Savvy engineers who are engaging in up-integration - adding software that makes one electronic module do many things - and sensor fusion - using complementary technologies to enhance object detection and classification - may have an edge in an ever-competitive job market.

In the rush to meet consumer demand and stay competitive, suppliers tend to be increasingly eager to develop ways to integrate safety and other technology systems. Many vehicles currently come with automatic on/off, high/low beam and rain sensor technology for instance. A separate camera, of course, is not necessary for this. Install a camera for a lane departure warning system, and suddenly a world of possibilities opens up. Intelligent headlight plus pedestrian and sign recognition programs can also be added, to name a few, without the need for additional cameras. Separate module manufacturing for each technological innovation becomes unnecessary. Multiple functions and features on the same apparatus decrease cost and increase functionality

So, what’s next? It seems to be the perpetual question that automotive engineers ask - no matter how far we advance. Perhaps an entirely self-driving car. Perhaps hover vehicles on highways, following designated pathways and communicating with surrounding vehicles to avoid crashes.

What do consumers want? The evolution of technology. Inventions born of new ideas. And, ultimately, innovative products that can even make us all safer. It’s the engineers, though - the technological innovators themselves - who make it possible.

Some Of The Best Smart Phones Available!

Let’s face it, when it comes to certain products, we only buy brand names. Now I don’t want to seem snooty or anything like that, but think about it. Even when you go grocery shopping I’m sure you only buy certain brand names. It’s just human nature to pick what you know. For me, electronics are the same, or anything tech-y for that matter. I stick to things I have had good experiences with and stay away from the things I have had bad experiences with. In this case, Nokias. One Of My Favorite New Gadgets Available!

At least for the moment anyway. There are constantly gadgets and new technology popping up every single day. From iPods that fit in your back pocket and fit 4000 songs, to James Bond watches that actually do James Bond “stunts” to 3 inch laptops, we really have a lot of different things to choose from. If I was a billionaire, I would spend all my money on fast cars and gadgets. Lots and lots of gadgets! In this article, I’m going to list my favorite gadget of the moment.

Video Glasses are really starting to become incredibly popular. I first found out about these when I was on a plane heading to the south of Florida, they had one of these little gadget sky mall magazines, and as I was flipping through it I found these cool little video glasses. At first look your either going to ooh and ahh or you’re going to completely miss the point and sigh about “another” ridiculous gadget hitting the shelves. For your information, these glasses are awesome! So how do they work? Simple, these glasses can be connected to your PC or laptop through the VGA and or AV jack and function as a monitor to play games online or watch movies online. You can also use these glasses to connect to your video game console and watch the game through the glasses.

By “through” the glasses I mean, there is a small virtual screen “in” the glasses, when you look straight ahead or in some cases side to side, you can see the video being played as well as hear the sounds through tiny speakers that are implanted on the glasses. Listed below are some of the specs for these virtual glasses:

Video Glasses 80′ EVG920D
*Breathtaking 3D feature for unbelievable stereoscopic game and movie experience
*Can work on any operation system, and any computers that support 640*480 resolution
*Auto switching between different video system, Pal/Ntsc/Secam
*Standard Nokia Mobile batteries in-built, removable, chargeable and exchangeable.
*Compact and light weighted trendy design
*Low power consumption
*Adjustable volume
*4 hours continuous play after one full charge
*Resolution: 640 * 480 (VGA)
*Color depth:24-bit input
*Viewing Angle: 35 degrees diagonal
*Audio: Dual-channel stereo
*3D Feature: Field Sequential 3D stereoscopic VGA signal
*Video input format: VGA (60Hz), Composite AV (NTSC/PAL/SECAM) input, S-Video (optional)
- USB cable
- VGA cable
- AV cable

These things are just incredible, and honestly the price isn’t half bad either, your looking at around $300. I kind of like the price because for one thing you know they aren’t going to be some cheap product that is going to break the next day and for two you know this product is made for stability, comfort, usage, and convenience. If it was $15, I would be a little worried personally!

Here are a couple other video gasses you can also take a look at. All of these vary in prices as well as specs and accessories:

Advantages of a LCD TV

LCD TV’s (liquid crystal display) are on of the most popular types of HDTV’s on the market today. LCD technology has been in use for several years. Many of us remember the days of CRT computer monitors but most people have moved on to LCD computer monitors. The technology used for computer monitors has evolved to high definition televisions and they are growing fast.

LCD HDTV’s main competition is plasma television. Up until recently, plasma was shockingly more expensive tha LCD but with advances in technology, their prices are becoming more similar. So if pricing is pretty similar, then which TV is the better option? Each has its advantages and disadvantages. For now, we will be focusing on the advantages of LCD televisions.

Advantage 1: Screen Glare. Plasma TV’s have a reflective, glass looking screen. LCD screens have more of a matte finish. Because of this, you don’t have to worry as much about having too much light in your room. LCD TV’s are a great option for theater rooms, kitchens, living rooms and just about anywhere else. You don’t have to be stuffed in a cave to see the picture.

Advantage 2: Energy Use. LCD TV’s use much less energy than plasma TV’s. Running a plasma TV could cost you several hundred dollars more per year just to own. With the recent “green” movement, you will be helping the environment by avoiding plasma.

Advantage 3: Size. LCD is available in a very wide size range. You can get LCD screens anywhere from 5 inches to 65 inches or higher. Plasma screens are usually only available in the 40 inch or greater range.

Advantage 4: Price. Even though plasma’s are getting cheaper, you will still save a few bucks by going with a LCD. Most people can’t even tell the difference between LCD and plasma so save a few bucks and go LCD. With our current economy, who doesn’t want to save money?

Advantage 5: Wall Mounting. You can wall mount most LCD or plasma HDTV’s. Wall mounting is a great option for several reasons. First, it looks very styling and modern. Second, it frees up space in small or cluttered living rooms. Lastly, you can mount them with a swing arm so you can position the TV in any direction that you want.

These are some of the most common advantages listed for LCD TV’s over other types of high definition TV’s. Each has its pro’s and con’s but these advantages may persuade you to buy LCD.

Are You Interested In Some Cheap Games And Accessories For Your PSP?

The PlayStation Portable or PSP has been one of my favorite Sony consoles as of yet. You get all the fantastically fun aspects of the PlayStation but you can carry it around with you wherever you go. Can you do that with your regular console? I think not! This handheld console isn’t like the rest of the ones out there either, this one is really special! For example did you know the PSP is the first handheld video game console to use an optical disc format and universal media disc, as its primary storage media. Other popular features of the console include its large screen incredibly robust multi-media capabilities, and on top of that connectivity with the PSP3, other PSPs, and the Internet! Pretty cool, huh?

Whats even cooler is that there are some really nice places online that offer games and accessories for really superb prices. These websites were specifically made to allow people like you to buy the best PSP games and accessories for half the amount that you would in a regular store. But hey, cheap in price doesn’t mean cheap in quality. These sites are just like any other gaming store on or offline, they offer all the same games, and accessories including skins, covers and themes. Just recently, I found one in particular that had by far, the best prices on PSPs and all the top PSP games I have seen anywhere yet! This is not only good news for you if you have a PSP and want some cool games and accessories, but its also great for people that want a PSP and for friends or parents that want to get someone a PSP or some games but don’t want to have to pay an arm and a leg for one. These guys can get quite expensive in the regular brand name stores, believe me because I made the mistake of buying mine at EB Games and it was a few hundred bucks!

Now looking on these cooler discount sites I see I could have bought a brand new PSP for around 120 pounds. That to me, is pretty upsetting considering mine cost twice as much as that. And the games are inexpensive too, as said above. At a regular store you are looking at about 30-40 pounds per game on the gaming sites, and a quivering 15-25 pounds on these discount UK sites. That is just amazing! If you want to save yourself some serious money, I suggest you take a good hard long look at these UK based discount websites! You are seriously going to get more bang for your buck!

Check out these handhelds as well from other companies!

The DirecTV Dish Is As Good As The DishNetwork

Most US citizens who want to enjoy TV satellite programming in their home will find that there are two companies that are the biggest players in this industry. These two satellite TV service providers, DirecTV and DishNetwork, have become so well-known that their company names are synonymous with dish network satellite service. While DishNetwork has long been the leader in the industry, the DirecTV dish service has been staying very competitive.

However, it should be noted that DishNetwork and DirecTV are not the only contenders in this highly competitive field, which is growing and expanding at a rapid pace and is constantly luring customers to dish network satellite services and away from cable companies. One of the other home dish network service providers is the Sky Angel system, which is gaining market share among consumers who want to have a broader selection of family-friendly programming and who do not want much of the mainstream entertainment to be brought into their homes.

Both the DishNetwork and DirecTV dish companies constantly offer specials to consumers, as these two behemoths of the satellite TV industry continue to compete heavily. With all of this competitive spirit, the consumer ends up being the biggest winner in this contest between the satellite television giants.

Many times, both DishNetwork and DirecTV will offer special promotions and the new customers often end up receiving free dish services for a month, free satellite dish equipment, a free dish network satellite receiver, and sometimes even special HDTV programming prices during a trial period. When setting up a new home dish service with these companies there is also the potential to receive special expanded programming packages at a lower price, or one to three months of premium programming channels.

This is wonderful for customers who are just getting familiar with all that satellite TV services have to offer, as they can sample the full programming options during this time without having to pay extra. At the same time, the satellite television companies know that by offering these dish network deals on programming, the consumers often get “hooked” on the additional channels and then are willing to pay for an upgraded programming package or will subscribe to the premium channels.

Even though DishNetwork has been in the lead position in the US for many years, the DirecTV network is gaining ground in the Latin American market. DirecTV is made up of four different operational units, which include the DirecTV Latin America unit, the PanAmSat unit, the Hughes Network Systems unit (known as HNS), in addition to the DirecTV US unit.

The DirecTV dish company has amassed more than 12 million satellite customers throughout the US and they also have about 1.5 million additional customers throughout various Latin American countries. Their PanAmSat network consists of 25 satellites, which have enough transmission capacity to handle 98% of all satellite communications in the world.

Types of HDTV’s - Learn Before You Go Shopping

The market is spilling over with the latest brand new models of HDTV. The High Definition TV is taking over from the age old analog TV. It is nothing but a standardized makeover of the standard television. The customers often get confused about what to buy and what not to buy. They usually end up with something from which they are disappointment. However, if you have the proper information and the guidelines you are sure to grasp the right one.

When shopping for a HDTV, many people head to their local Circuit City or Best Buy and talk to the 18 year old salesperson about a new TV. Unfortunately, this is not the best way to approach buying a new TV. First of all, you are going to be spending several hundred or even thousands of dollar. You need to do your own research and educate yourself about the different types of HDTV’s and their features. If you spend your time doing research, you will also find a better deal than the average day at the local electronics store.

LCD TV’s are extremely popular, especially in the 20 inch to 40 inch size range. LCD stands for liquid crystal display. Many people are already using LCD displays with their home computers. These types of TV’s have historically been cheaper. Some disadvantages of LCD is the inferior black levels. They don’t display black and dark colors as dark as some other types of HDTV’s.

Plasma TV’s are becoming more popular, especially in the 40 inch and higher size range. Plasma’s typically have the best possible picture available. They display blacks very black and have the richest possible colors. Historically, plasma TV’s are more expensive than LCD TV’s but they are becoming more affordable all the time. Plasma TV’s also consume more power which could cause your power bill to go up a couple dollars per month.

Rear projection HDTV’s are still available but are being produced less and less by major TV manufacturers. Many of the new brands don’t even make them. They are bulkier than flat panels, not as reliable and don’t produce quite the same image. However, they are considerably cheaper. You can often buy a 60 inch rear projection for the price of a 37 inch flat panel.

By learning more about these 3 types of HDTV’s, you can be more knowledgeable and not get taken advantage of by salespeople.
